Alumnae
Showcase Submission Form
Submit your information to be part of the Showcase.
You can also use this form to submit Alumna Update information.
“I’m interested in a criminal justice
career. Can another SHA graduate tell
me more about it?” “Where can I find a fellow alumna who paints house
portraits?” “Are any Academians in the real estate business in my neighborhood?”
We have a graduate who does that, and
you can find her on SHA’s Alumnae Showcase, which
proudly lists Academy graduates in every imaginable field of endeavor. Some are in businesses and
professions. Others are distinguishing
themselves in art for art’s sake, serving as volunteers, etc. Each of these women does something
interesting and worthwhile, and this page is intended to tell you about it.
If you are a graduate of SHA, send us
a business card or other description of what you do with your time and
talent. How are you making a
difference? Humility has its place, but
now it’s time to shine as a credit to SHA and as a resource to your fellow
alumnae. Include contact information
that we can post on the web. For some
of you, this may be an opportunity to develop business or locate a trustworthy
service provider. Others may find
themselves in the role of sharing experiences with younger graduates who are
considering similar paths. For all of
us, it is a way to help each other, while showing the diversity and value of
our lives after SHA.
How much does a listing cost? It’s free, because it’s something we
do for each other.
Besides, we're proud of you.
All we ask is that, when another alumna calls, you treat her like a
sister.
Thanks to Cristina
Andreana ’87
for creating and managing this project!

Welcome to
the Alumnae's newest (and forever youngest) members,
the 34 graduates of SHA's Class of 2006.
Members of the Classes of 2007, 2008 and
2009 may not have graduated, but it certainly isn't their fault!
They received pins signifying this special status. We know they will be
successful and happy in their new schools, but we will always consider them,
along with all our graduates, daughters of the Academy.

SHA...to go!
It is after their graduation that our alumnae realize SHA did not strictly
reside in the grounds, bricks and asphalt at 200 Strawberry Hill Avenue, and
was not exclusively enjoyed by our returning students. SHA attends
the farewell parties in August, as the girls head off to distant colleges.
Its mark appears in the instant messages they share as they adjust to dorm
life and greater independence. SHA is with them in class, when they
feel well prepared for college material. It is present in challenging
social situations and job interviews. And it will remain with them over the
years, in their appreciation of happiness, in their endurance of sorrow, and
especially in their service to others, as they sculpt their adult lives and
when they share the stories of their
careers and families. You WILL have SHA with you, always, when you
recognize it and when you don't.
You will have many other friendships
in your life, but few as rich with memories as those with your SHA
classmates. These are the girls with whom you became a young adult over four
important years. Write a note. Send an "IM." Make a call. They
do want to
hear from you (especially now that you're not asking for donations). Stay in touch.
Alumnae Association
The organization of our alumnae will re-define itself during the years after the Academy's closing. Schools have closed before, and
many of their alumnae associations have gone on to become even stronger than
they were when the schools were open. That certainly requires a
special effort, so consider joining us. If distance or
other considerations prevent your formal involvement, make a personal effort
to correspond with classmates. Suggest and support an occasional class
reunion. Do what you can to strengthen your classmates' life-long
connections.

Proudly Support...
If appreciation of your SHA experience prompts you to make a donation,
consider addressing it to the Sisters of St. Joseph of Chambery in West
Hartford. These are the women who kept SHA afloat in recent years.
They are the living representatives of the women who founded SHA in 1922,
and taught you during your high school years. Many of them are now
retired. Growing numbers are elderly and in need of medical care.
It's not easy to find a charity where your donation is genuinely appreciated
and appropriately used. The Sisters of St. Joseph is a good cause, especially for those
of us who benefited from their
untiring generosity in past years.

BLUE
GOLD
SHA SPIRIT!
|
|
Still alive and well in SHA's alumnae |
|
SHA
is alive and well in the hearts of its former students! That was never plainer than at St. Cecilia's Church
on the first Tuesday of June, when our newest alumnae sang,
so loudly and clearly:
Here's to the blue and gold of Sacred Heart! From you our loyalty never shall depart.
We will your counsel forever heed. And daily seek for the higher things.
So that by our ev'ry deed, to you we'll honor
bring.
Raise voices loud and strong,
praises prolong!
Let all in joy unite, in the happy song! Fair Alma Mater, we pledge to thee
Our trusting love and fidelity. To thee we'll be true for aye and cheer for S.H.A.!
